The Third House (Sahaja Bhava) in Vedic Astrology
signifies courage, siblings (especially younger ones), initiative, physical strength, short travels,
communication, and artistic skills. According to BPHS Chapter 14, the placement of the 3rd lord
influences a person’s drive, stamina, and sibling relationships.
सहजेशो यɞदि लग्नेसदिा सौख्यसमɥÊन्वितः।
धनन्विान्दिी र्घजीन्विी च पराक्रमी नरः स्मृतः॥Translation: If the 3rd lord is in the Ascendant, the native will be
courageous, long-lived, wealthy, and happy.Shloka 2
धनभान्विगतो यस्य सहजेशो नरोत्तमः।
धनाढ्यो गुणसम्पन्नः स्त्रैणोऽɟप परगृहाश्रयी॥Translation: If the 3rd lord is in the 2nd, the native will be virtuous
and wealthy, but may be overly fond of women and may live in others’ homes.Shloka 3
स्न्विभान्विेच ɜस्थितेसौम्येसाहसी भ्रातृन्वित्सलः।
पुत्रन्विांश्च यशस्न्विी च धमर्घशीलो भɟन्विष्यɟत॥Translation: If the 3rd lord is in its own house and benefic, the native
will be brave, affectionate toward siblings, have children, be famous, and righteous.Shloka 4
चतु)र्थेयɞदि ना)स्तुसहजो मातृɟनÊदिकः।
रोगी च दुभर्घगश्चैन्वि ɟनगृर्घहो ɟन्विन्विादिकृ त्॥Translation: If the 3rd lord is in the 4th, the native may speak ill of
the mother, suffer diseases, lack comforts, and be quarrelsome.Shloka 5
पंचमेच ɜस्थितेसौम्येसाहसी सुतन्विान्नरः।
यशस्न्विी कɟन्विताशीलः कु लधमर्घपरायणः॥Translation: If the 3rd lord is in the 5th with a benefic, the native will
be courageous, blessed with children, famous, poetic, and devoted to tradition.Shloka 6
षष्ठस्थिेच ɜस्थितेपापेभ्रातृन्विैरसमɥÊन्वितः।
नाɧस्तकः शत्रुपीडश्च स्न्विन्विैɝरगृहɟन्विक्रयी॥Translation: If the 3rd lord is in the 6th and afflicted, the native will
have enmity with siblings, be atheistic, harassed by enemies, and sell his enemies’ house or property.Shloka 7
सप्तमेयɞदि पापेन सहजो नाशनं भ्राताम्।
दिारारोग्यɟन्विनाशश्च न्विृɣद्धिक्लेशसमɥÊन्वितः॥Translation: If the 3rd lord is in the 7th with a malefic, the native will
lose siblings, face issues in spouse’s health, and suffer due to elderly relatives.Shloka 8
अष्टमेɜस्थितसौम्येच साहसी दिी र्घजीɟन्विता।
ɦस्नग्धो मातृɟपतृभक्तो धमर्घन्विान्कु लपोषकः॥Translation: If the 3rd lord is in the 8th and benefic, the native will
be courageous, long-lived, affectionate to parents, righteous, and a supporter of the family.
Shloka 9
नन्विमेच ɜस्थितेसौम्येधमर्घशीलः सुभोगन्विान्।
भाग्यन्विान्भ्रातृयुक्तश्च ज्ञानी श्रुतसमɥÊन्वितः॥Translation: If the 3rd lord is in the 9th with a benefic, the native will
be religious, fortunate, blessed with siblings, wise, and knowledgeable.Shloka 10
दिशमेयɞदि ना)स्तुसाहसी व्यान्विसायन्विान्।
राजसेन्विी च धीमान्च सन्विर्घɟन्विद्याɟन्विशारदिः॥Translation: If the 3rd lord is in the 10th, the native will be
enterprising, intelligent, skilled in many subjects, and may serve the government or work in
administration.Shloka 11
एकादिशेयɞदि ना)स्तुसाहसी धनन्विान्नरः।
भ्रातृयुक्तो यशस्न्विी च ɟप्रियन्विादिी सुɟन्विक्रमः॥Translation: If the 3rd lord is in the 11th, the native will be brave,
wealthy, famous, have good siblings, speak pleasantly, and achieve success.Shloka 12
व्ययेयɞदि ɜस्थितो भ्रातृनाशनः ɟपशुनः खरः।
दुःɤखतो ɟन्विफलाचायर्घः कष्टजीन्विी च दिीनकः॥Translation: If the 3rd lord is in the 12th, the native may lose
siblings, be cruel and slanderous, unhappy, fail in efforts, and live a life of hardship.Conclusion
