Effects of the Seventh House – Marriage, Partner, and Desires (BPHS Chapter 18)

Introduction

The Seventh House (Yuvati Bhava) represents spouse, marriage, sexual union, partnerships, foreign travels, and public dealings. Chapter 18 of BPHS details how the placement of the 7th lord affects marital happiness, the nature of one’s spouse, and the native’s interaction with others in business and society.

Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra  Shlokas with Translation and Interpretation

Shloka 1

युवतिपः यदि लग्ने सदा स्त्रीसंगसंयुतः।
सुभगो बहुभार्या च धर्मवान् प्रियवाद्यपि॥

Translation: If the 7th lord is in the Ascendant, the native will be fond of women, charming, possibly have multiple spouses, be virtuous, and soft-spoken.

Shloka 2

धनस्थे युवतिनाथे भोगी स्त्रीप्रिय एव च।
व्यवसायी धनाढ्यश्च कुटुम्बं भक्तिवर्धकः॥

Translation: If the 7th lord is in the 2nd, the native will be sensual, fond of spouse, wealthy through business, and increase family fortunes.

Shloka 3

तृतीयस्थे युवतिनाथे स्त्रीवैरसमन्वितः।
भ्रातृवैरसमायुक्तः स्त्रीपीडनपरायणः॥

Translation: If the 7th lord is in the 3rd, the native will face issues with spouse and siblings and may behave harshly towards women.

Shloka 4

चतुर्थस्थे युवतिनाथे गृही सुखसमन्वितः।
मातृप्रियः स्त्रीभक्तः स्त्रैणो धर्मपरायणः॥

Translation: If the 7th lord is in the 4th, the native will enjoy domestic happiness, love his mother and spouse, and be religiously inclined.

Shloka 5

पंचमे युवतिनाथे स्त्रैणो बालप्रियो नृप।
प्रियवाद्यर्थनिष्ठश्च धर्मशीलो यशस्विनः॥

Translation: If the 7th lord is in the 5th, the native will be fond of spouse and children, speak sweetly, be devoted to purpose, and gain fame.

Shloka 6

षष्ठस्थे युवतिनाथे स्त्रीवैरसमन्वितः।
शत्रुभार्यविनाशश्च रोगयुक्तोऽल्पजीविकः॥

Translation: If the 7th lord is in the 6th, the native will have quarrels with spouse, face health issues, and suffer short-lived income or relationships.

Shloka 7

सप्तमे युवतिनाथे सुशीलो भार्यया सुखी।
रमणीयवपुः स्त्रैणो धर्मात्मा सुखभाग्भवेत्॥

Translation: If the 7th lord is in its own house, the native will be virtuous, attractive, affectionate toward spouse, and blessed with happiness.

Shloka 8

अष्टमे युवतिनाथे पत्नीहानिः सदा भवेत्।
क्लेशयुक्तो विपत्तिष्ठो व्यसनश्च प्रजाहीनकः॥

Translation: If the 7th lord is in the 8th, the native may lose spouse, face misery, misfortunes, and suffer childlessness.

Shloka 9

नवमे युवतिनाथे भाग्यवृध्दिः पतिसुखम्।
धार्मिकः कुलजातश्च विद्वान् सत्यवादी नरः॥

Translation: If the 7th lord is in the 9th, the native will be fortunate, enjoy marital happiness, be religious, noble, learned, and truthful.

Shloka 10

दशमे युवतिनाथे व्यवसायी सदा नरः।
व्यापारकुशलः क्षात्रः धर्मवान् यशोऽन्वितः॥

Translation: If the 7th lord is in the 10th, the native will be business-minded, skilled in trade, warrior-like, virtuous, and famous.

Shloka 11

एकादशे युवतिनाथे सदा स्त्रीसंगसंयुतः।
धनिकः प्रियवाद्यपि लाभवृद्धिसमन्वितः॥

Translation: If the 7th lord is in the 11th, the native will frequently be with women, wealthy, pleasant in speech, and gainful in partnerships.

Shloka 12

व्यये युवतिनाथे च पतिवियोगसंततिः।
दुःखशोकार्थसम्बन्धो व्यसनं व्रजनं बहु॥

Translation: If the 7th lord is in the 12th, the native will suffer separation from spouse, face sorrow, be addicted, and travel excessively.

Conclusion

The Seventh House defines marital bliss and societal relations. A well-placed 7th lord promotes loving, enduring partnerships and success in dealings with the world. Malefic placements bring disharmony, separations, and emotional emptiness.
