Effects of the Sixth House – Enemies, Debts, and Diseases (BPHS Chapter 17)

Introduction

The Sixth House (Shatru Bhava) in Vedic Astrology governs enemies, debts, diseases, competition, service, and discipline. BPHS Chapter 17 outlines how the placement of the 6th lord affects a native’s struggles, capacity to overcome obstacles, and physical constitution.

Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra  Shlokas with Translation and Interpretation

Shloka 1

षष्ठेशो यदि लग्ने रोगपीडासमन्वितः।
शत्रुभीतोऽल्पधनवान् सेवकः स्यात् सदा नरः॥

Translation: If the 6th lord is in the Ascendant, the native will suffer from diseases, fear enemies, have little wealth, and live like a servant.

Shloka 2

धनस्थे षष्ठनाथे च धनहानिः सदा भवेत्।
ऋणपीडासमन्विष्टः शत्रुभिः पीडितो भवेत्॥

Translation: If the 6th lord is in the 2nd, the native will face constant financial loss, debt, and trouble from enemies.

Shloka 3

तृतीयस्थे षष्ठनाथे साहसी शत्रुनाशनः।
कविः शूरो जनेष्वाद्यः प्रियवादी सुखी भवेत्॥

Translation: If the 6th lord is in the 3rd, the native will be brave, destroy enemies, be poetic, popular, and happy.

Shloka 4

चतुर्थस्थे षष्ठनाथे मातृदुःखसमन्वितः।
रोगी क्लिश्यति दुःखार्थी दुर्गृही क्लेशसंयुतः॥

Translation: If the 6th lord is in the 4th, the native will experience suffering related to mother, disease, home discomforts, and sorrow.

Shloka 5

पंचमस्थे षष्ठनाथे पुत्रहानिः सदा भवेत्।
दुःखितो मानसी क्लिष्टो धर्मनाशः सदा नरः॥

Translation: If the 6th lord is in the 5th, the native may face child loss, mental distress, and loss of righteousness.

Shloka 6

षष्ठे षष्ठेशगं सौम्यं रोगहं च रिपून् जयेत्।
आरोग्ययुक्तो दीर्घायुर्नरः सुखसमन्वितः॥

Translation: If the 6th lord is in its own house with a benefic, the native will destroy enemies, be healthy, long-lived, and happy.

Shloka 7

सप्तमे षष्ठनाथे च शत्रुपीडासमन्वितः।
पत्नीवैरसमायुक्तो दीर्घरोगसमन्वितः॥

Translation: If the 6th lord is in the 7th, the native will be troubled by enemies and diseases and face discord with the spouse.

Shloka 8

अष्टमे षष्ठनाथे च दीर्घरोगसमन्वितः।
दुःखितो मानसी क्लिष्टः स्वसौख्यविहीनकृत्॥

Translation: If the 6th lord is in the 8th, the native may suffer chronic illness, be mentally disturbed, and lack personal comfort.

Shloka 9

नवमे षष्ठनाथे च दुष्कृत्यफलकर्मकृत्।
धर्महीनः सदा क्लिष्टो व्यसनी पुत्रवर्जितः॥

Translation: If the 6th lord is in the 9th, the native will do bad karma, be irreligious, troubled, addicted, and without children.

Shloka 10

दशमे षष्ठनाथे च सेवकः स्यात्सदा नरः।
कष्टजीवी च निर्लज्जः पापकारी च दूषकः॥

Translation: If the 6th lord is in the 10th, the native will live a laborious life, be shameless, sinful, and prone to defamation.

Shloka 11

एकादशे षष्ठनाथे शत्रुनाशसमन्वितः।
आरोग्ययुक्तो धनवान् प्रियवादी यशस्विनः॥

Translation: If the 6th lord is in the 11th, the native will destroy enemies, be healthy, wealthy, sweet-spoken, and renowned.

Shloka 12

व्यये षष्ठनाथे च सदा रोगी सदा दरिद्रकः।
शत्रुपीडासमन्विष्टः सेवकः खिन्नमानसः॥

Translation: If the 6th lord is in the 12th, the native will suffer illness, poverty, enemy troubles, and mental stress, and live in servitude.

Conclusion

According to Parāśara, the Sixth House reveals how a native handles adversity. When afflicted, it indicates struggles and dependence. When benefic, it gives the power to conquer obstacles, master discipline, and protect oneself.
